    Hey Kayla,

My name is Neetu Dhawan and am writing on behalf of a women’s organization called Women and Youth Supporting Each Other. WYSE is dedicated to helping young women, from the ages of eleven and fourteen, become aware of the many opportunities available in and outside their community. We mentor the girls in various areas, such as relationships with parents, teachers, and peers; many of our discussions also target sex and relationships with boys. On a weekly basis, we hold sessions for our mentees in the Madero Middle school located in Little Village (Chicago) going over such topics. We are also aware that the girls live in a community that is heavily influenced by many gangs. As such, we are holding a session discussing gangs and their impact on the community. As part of this session, we are holding stations for the girls, making them aware of the many activities in which they can participate instead of becoming involved in gangs.

WYSE is hoping that we could have a graffiti artist who would be able to assist us at this session, in getting the girls acquainted to graffiti art. This session would be held on April 18th, between 2pm-5pm at the Boys and Girls club located in Little Village. Please let us know if you know anyone who would be able to volunteer her time to help mentor these girls. References to other artists in the area would be extremely helpful. Thank you so much!

    Neetu Dhawan
    WYSE Mentor
